The Selphy CP1500
16 April 2024 | 11:13 pm

I am the owner of a Canon Pixma Pro 10, which is currently stored in my garage and is no longer in use. Due to numerous issues with that printer, I finally gave up. The main reason for purchasing that huge printer was its ability to print larger images. But, what is important to know is that you need to use the printer frequently, on a weekly basis. If you don’t, it can quickly become uneconomical.

For over three years, I have not printed any photos, and I have missed doing so. Privacy matters to me, and I cannot trust the idea of leaving an SD card to get prints, and hoping that my data will be completely erased once the process is done.

I was searching for a printer and hoped to find a laser colour printer that could produce high-quality pictures without the inconvenience of replacing multiple ink cartridges after a certain number of prints. But, I never found it.

And, one day, I came across Jeremy Janin’s post about the Canon Selphy CP-1500. It’s a small wireless printer that prints 6x4 inches, or 148x100mm pictures. It uses a dye-sublimation process, with a specific designed ribbon and paper. The images are printed in three passes, with a final protective pass.

The printer has limitations and cannot print large pictures. However, it is capable of printing smaller pictures, including credit card-sized photos with optional sticky backs. Printable stickers are also available as an option.

The printer is compact and features a screen with five buttons for configuration and navigation of the included applications.

The configuration process is simple. To use it with your phone, you need to follow the instructions displayed on the screen. But, I configured Cups to be able to use it with Darktable. However, there are different options available. You can even insert a SD card in the printer, select your photos (in a low resolution on the screen), and print them.

The printer includes an app for creating passport IDs, although I have not yet used this feature. The same way, Android and iOS apps are available, but I haven’t tested them.

The cost of the printer is approximately €120, excluding the cost of paper and cartridges. I purchased the High Capacity Color Ink/Paper set for €35. This pack contains sufficient ink and paper to print 108 postcard-sized images. It’s probably the most economical option.

two pictures made with the selphy cp1500. One with three lamas, and one with a woman visage, and birds around her painted on black wall

In conclusion, the Selphy CP1500 is an excellent printer. It is suitable for frequent printing, sharing with friends and family, or to be inserted in an album. However, perhaps, the most appealing aspect is the ability to have a photograph in your hands, rather than hidden on your mobile phone.

Movies - TV Show

Here’s how I rate them.

Foundation - 2021

I still haven’t finished the first season. One episode left. Then, I’ll attack the second one.

We’re the Millers - 2013

Definitely not my kind of movies, but I watched it one night doing something else. Will probably never watch it again.

Enemy at the gates - 2001

Jude Law, and Ed Harris play a game of cat and mouse as snipers during the Battle of Stalingrad.

I watched that movie years ago, and I still enjoyed watching it.

Ninja Kamui - 2024

I continued this TV show. So far, so good.

Sport

I haven’t trained as much as I wanted. Got the flu for a full week with shivers, and headaches, then a weird allergy that got my ankles, and feet purple.

A bit weird when you discover that you are allergic to something. Still not sure if it was the cheese or that bread I never ate before.

I watched the NBA, as usual. I haven’t missed one game of the Nuggets this year.
