Welcome!
Well hello there, fellow digital wanderer. I hope your journey across the internet is going well and it’s good to see you here. This is Manu welcoming you but I'm sure Ray would have done the same.
So what is Blogroll.org?
Some people claim—with very little proof—that blogging is dead. To them, I say "blogging is dead, long live blogging". Blogging is not dead. Bloggers are not dead either. There are hundreds, thousands, probably even hundreds of thousands of blogs still out there, written in all languages, covering all topics, waiting to be discovered, to be read, to be shared, to be loved and supported.
Because, as Ray said, blogs are the soul of the web. Behind each blog there's a person dedicating some of their time to share something with the world without asking anything back. Something they might be passionate about. Maybe even something deeply personal.
On blogs I read about dreams and goals as well as failure and loss. I read about immense happiness and great sorrow. I learned new skills thanks to blogs, and I discovered new things thanks to blogs.
It's fair to say I would not be the person I am today without blogs and without the kindness of the people behind each one of them. And that is why blogs are worth celebrating.
But why a blogroll?
As you might have noticed it’s become harder to uncover gems lost inside bloated search engines and silos of algorithmic societies that prefer you stay within (to better monetize you). And in this environment, the process of discovering and curating blogs, for others to consume and enjoy, has been left in the hands of those who care enough to dedicate their time to the act of curation.
People like Ray, who originally started this blogroll and then graciously decided to leave it in my hands to keep it going, to make it grow and thrive.
Blogroll.org is a living map pointing the way to solitary souls plunking away on their electronic scrolls amidst a vast sea of bits and bytes. It's a constantly growing collection of blogs, loosely categorised, and curated to make your journey through the independent web easier and more enjoyable.
How can you contribute
If you find this project as enjoyable and important as I do, there are two things you can do.
The first, and most important is to contribute. This blogroll is open to suggestions so if you find a blog you think is worth sharing with the world, submit it! I don't guarantee it will be included because, as the curator, I have my quirks and secret rules for what goes into the blogroll but I'll for sure consider it.
The second is to become a supporter of this site. You will not get anything fancy back—for now—other than the warm and fuzzy feeling of knowing you're giving your contribution to keep this site alive and thriving.
The only thing left to say is enjoy the journey, fellow wanderer. It’s a wild one with many islands to be discovered.
